Heath Ledger (State) Theatre of WA – Glass Floor
Location: Karrinyup, WA
Com-AL Windows was proud to be involved in the construction of the State Theatre with John Holland some years ago.
At the time we installed a glass floor that had LED lighting beneath it and sacrificial laminated glass installed in rectangular pieces in case one piece broke the floor did not lose its structural integrity. Over the years this proved to be a problem as skateboarders would smash the sacrificial glass and became very expensive to replace. The builder asked us to install a polycarbonate layer to act as a barrier and protective cover so the glass floor could not easily be broken. Other parts of this impressive façade included a twin wall polycarbonate box on the upper part of the building, all lit up at night and huge pieces of 10mm toughened on the main entry façade with gold tubes lit up. The result was an impressive facility for the arts scene in Perth and another innovative and successful project with Com-AL Windows.
