The Hub is a 4 level multi-purpose community building established by the City of Belmont in Perth, Western Australia in which Com-Al Windows was instrumental in the design, manufacture, and installation of this unique architectural style façade system with its curved and angled buildings.
Our efficient and experienced design team was able to recognize the complexity of the design and with the aid of Atelier JV Facade Engineers, proceeded with a 3D drafting model to ensure a smooth façade installation.
A wide range of materials was used in the construction of the façade including the Reynaers’ Aluminium CW60sc stick walling system which was installed by our experienced glaziers. This system incorporates a slim aluminum profile that is strategically placed to support the 17.52 Low E toughened laminated glass panels with the additional challenge of creating a beautiful curved curtain wall that has shingles and slanted aluminum panels placed on the exterior to create a unique layered complementary finish.
Com-Al Windows provided all the external glazing elements, including the skylight, vertical feature sunshades and canopy sunshades. Internally, the scope included the manufacture and installation of the automatic door entries, internal door partition frames and all glazing, frameless spider fitting glazing to the library and also the glazing of the spectacular glass lift within the Atrium which points to the skylight above.
With the high-quality architectural finishes and bespoke elements including the curved curtain wall façade, construction required expert designers and specialised contractors to ensure the unique and innovative designs were safely and accurately installed.
Some further unique features of the building include the floating, veneer-clad staircase that stands without any columns or beams to support it from underneath and a central skylight which is supported by a 20 tonne structural steel frame and sits atop the void in the centre and runs down the central spine of the building.
The Hub has achieved a 5 Star Green Star Design Review and we are very proud to have had the opportunity to work on this highly complex cultural community centre and work with the many teams, including PACT Construction, to complete one of the largest construction projects in the City of Belmont has undertaken.
